2021 Projects

Projects completed in 2021

2021 proved to be another very interesting year. Due to Covid 19 health orders, many major fundraising events had to be cancelled or moved. Our monthly Board and member meetings were held via ZOOM platform for the first half of the year.  In September we resumed face-to-face meetings in our clubhouse, with social distancing, masks and only brown bag lunches.

Despite having to cancel our major fundraisers (fashion show luncheon, line dancing, bunco and bridge luncheons), we still did many projects remotely or outdoors with masks and social distancing when allowed by state and county health agencies. We were so happy to be able to have our Spring Tea in June and December Holiday Luncheon in person.

  • The annual "Bakeless" Bake Sale raised $739 also supporting the Patty Hart scholarship fund.
  • Held our open-air-drive-up-drop-off and go Shredding for Scholarships in April and raised $3,356 for the Patty Hart Scholarship Fund.
  • Provided $3,000 in scholarships to high school seniors continuing on to college. One scholarship was given to a student at three Tri-Valley high schools.
  • Continued our support of the USDA Forest Service Pennies for Pines reforestation program with $408 in donations.
  • Knit hats for oncology patients. Two members knitted 78 hats and donated them. All materials are donated, and it took 547 hours for the work.
  • Held a sewing project for Operation Smile.  Members made 86 smile bags, donating all materials ($228) and working 77 hours. In addition, toothbrushes, toothpaste and bars of soap were donated.
  • Co-hosted the 35th Annual Hospice East Bay Tree of Lights - Danville on November 19, at the Danville Town Hall. Members personally donated in memory of family members and friends. We were able to have guests on site for the ceremony this year and also live streamed the event.
  • Supported the Bay Area Crisis Nursery holiday "Adopt-a-Family" project. Members gave $1,176 in gifts and gift cards for needy families.
  • Held two Bingo evenings in the spring (Valentine's Day and Easter) and raised $957 for our charities.
  • Continued to support the Ventana Wildlife Society as an environmental project. Members donated $100 to support the rebuilding of the Big Sur Condor Breeding and Release site which was destroyed by the Dolan Fire in 2020.
  • Held an opportunity drawing at our December Holiday Luncheon and raised $1,025 for the Discovery Counseling Center. Members and friends donated all the prizes in the amount of $852.
  • One member donated $350 to support updating of our Club website.
  • Line Dancing restarted in November 2021.  There was record attendance at the slimmed down classes.  $545 went to scholarships and other charities.
  • Donated $3,000 to local charities including, Friends of the Danville Library, Bay Area Crisis Nursery, Museum of the San Ramon Valley and Valley Oaks Respite Center.
  • A total of $8,288 was donated in 2021 plus $2,058 in in-kind gifts.
